I get a steak and Old Hookey Ale pie with chips, veg and a jug of gravy for £11.95. Extra mark to the girl behind the bar for being dead sweet with my daughter whilst she rampaged around the place pulling all the tablecloths off. I'm not the biggest fan of puff pastry given it's generally 80% air but I concede that this was a mighty lid. Top crust only so certain to upset the pie purists though. It’s served piping hot in a pot. There’s masses of rich steak with the odd bit of veg mixed in: carrots, leeks and a hint of garlic all swimming in luxuriant gravy and served up in a Betty’s Hotpot style dish. Heavenly steak chunks, dark divine gravy with enough real ale in it to make me think I'd spilled my pint in it. A truly sumptuous dining experience. They say they know their pies and yep, they do, (flat) cap well and truly doffed. Quality pie, quality ingredients but not cheap. Northerners: your jaw is over there on the floor if you wish to pick it up. These pies are hot property, a real class act and exceedingly filling.
