Plested Steak and Kidney Pie

Plesteds is Southampton's Premier Pie Shop: traditional savoury and fruit pies. For a shop which seems so big on pies, they don't seem to have an awful lot of variety. They've got steak and kidney, chicken and mushroom, chicken curry. That's your lot. I opt for a steak and kidney pie, where the decorative flower on the top crust is it's saving grace rather than it's crowning glory I'm afraid. Some of the crust refuses to detach itself from the foil tray as well. There is an innovative touch with the layer of gravy sat on top of the meat filling so that it soaks its' way down but that aside the filling is nothing spectacular. The gravy is excellent but the meat is as tasteless as Frankie Boyle
