Welcome to Life of Pies
· admin
I started to realise I had a problem when I found myself sat in my car by a leafy park in Knutsford waving a knife in the air getting ready to chop up a pie for the purpose of taking a picture of it's inner organs. Confused pensioners and observant dog walkers got out their smart phones and hastily rang 999 to report the psycho on the loose. But I'm not mentally unstable, I just love pies!
And if you've found your way here then maybe you love pies too!
We have created this website to celebrate the pies of the world, well this part of the world and hope to develop a community of pie lovers nationwide. With news, reviews, forums and blogging on the pie world and of course photos not to be viewed on an empty stomach - if you live a Life of Pie then this is the site for you so please dive in and get interactive.
The aforementioned spot of park pie partaking was the catalyst for something I had been plotting for a number of years. While working in St Helens a few years ago, I pondered an eternal question asked by many "I wonder what the pies are like around here?" which then led to the inevitable follow up question also asked by many but solved by few "Where do you get the best pies?"
A spreadsheet was constructed, at this early stage it contained chippies and butty vans as well with ratings given to each establishment visited. These are the important things in life I'm sure you'll agree but it was still relatively small fry.
Upon approaching middle age, many people (mainly men it has to be said) get obsessive about the most innocuous of activities and decided to rigidly go about covering ground that is there to be conquered. Some folk run marathons or attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro or learn to play the piano or the guitar. Not me, I wanted to find the perfect pie. But what is the perfect pie?
Perhaps the only way to find out is to get some absolute lunatic to spend the best part of a year and a half travelling the length and breadth of the country to find the answer?
I am that lunatic. 300 pies in 500 days to be precise. From Inverness to St Ives. Cornish Pasties to Steak and Gravy. All to be captured in the forthcoming "Life of Pies" book to be published later this year and available to order here on this very website.
There have been books on pies written before but they've always been written by experts. The difference with this one is that it's written by a COMPLETE IDIOT.
An idiot who happens to like pies and goes on a journey of discovery in search of the ultimate pastry product.
Why don't you come and join me?
