One hundred days of pie No.28: The Shropshire Fidget Pie

The first few weeks of "Life of Pies" were spent sneaking around the North West mainly eating meat and potato pies (because I hadn't yet told the missus what I was up to).
It soon became evident that I need to spread my wings beyond the safety blanket of my native North West and thus began the GREAT SEARCH in earnest. With wife and baby now in tow it became necessary to source a "family day out" and Shropshire seemed a reasonable enough place (with some top quality pastry producers) so off we toddled.
Wherever I travelled however, their always had to be a prime focus, be that a particular shop or a particular type of pie and the Shropshire Fidget Pie ticked both those boxes.
I procured it from the Ludlow Food Centre wandering around like the slathering mess I quickly turn into when met with such diversity of grand food opulence from around the region.
They had a healthy choice of pies available but with my specified target in mind, I bagged a brace of fidget pies at £2.25 offering my money to the lady on the counter. PAY AT THE TILL YOU NUMPTY!!!
Besides this farm shop schoolboy error, the fidget pie was indeed an intriguing feed. Primarily a snack devised to provide a filling meal for farmers ploughing the fields, it consists of ham/gammon, mash, apples, mustard and cider. Controversially the top crust appears to be mash but as I warmed mine up, it hardened in the oven.
Certainly different and a pie to make you go "ooo".
Or maybe that should be "oo-ar"
